  • Take and organize all the supplies such as nail clipper, towel and styptic powder. This powder is useful when a cat's nail starts to bleed.
  • Keep the cat in your lap in a way that her face is away from you. Your forearm is on her neck. You can cover her in towel or cloth if she starts to wriggle.
  • Massage and press the foot pad to extend the nails.
  • Find the quick; it is a pink portion of the nail that has nerves and blood vessels.
  • When you are clipping the nails, position the clippers at a 90-degree angle to the nail to cut it from top to bottom. If you try to cut the nails from side to side, then the nail may split.
  • Cut the sharp tip of the nail only. Avoid cutting the quick because cutting the quick is painful and cause bleeding. If you accidentally cut the quick of your cat, apply styptic powder to stop the bleeding.
